Volleyball: Cadets open Vermont Classic with shutout win – Norwich University
CASTLETON, Vt. – For the fourth-straight season, the Norwich ladies’s volleyball staff opened the Vermont Volleyball Traditional with a shutout victory, topping NVU-Johnson in dominant style, 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-10).
It was a balanced effort offensively for the Cadets, with Addison Schroeder (Apple Valley, Calif.) logging a team-high 9 kills. Leah Mathewson (North Chelmsford, Mass.) and Maggie McNeil (Gilford, N.H.) contributed eight and 7 kills, respectively.
Sarah Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) led the way in which with 26 assists, whereas her sister Laura Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) recorded a game-high 18 digs. McNeil scored 4 factors off her personal serves and paced the Cadets in aces with 4.
Norwich set the tone early, speeding out to a 13-2 lead within the opening set and quelling a late-set rally by the Badgers. NVU-Johnson would personal early leads within the second and third units, however a 7-0 run in set two and a 9-1 run in set three would catapult the Cadets to straight-set victories.
As a staff, Norwich greater than doubled NVU-Johnson in kills, 35-17, and owned a 30-16 edge in assists. With the win, Norwich has now gained three-straight towards the Badgers.
For the Badgers, Christina Betham led offensively with 10 kills, whereas Mason Lores registered 15 assists.
The Cadets will wrap-up the Vermont Volleyball Traditional with a pair of video games at Castleton tomorrow, Sep. 3, taking over the host Spartans in a ten a.m. conflict earlier than taking over NVU-Lyndon instantly after at 12 p.m.
