Vermont swift-water rescue team deploys to Kentucky to help

COLCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont swift-water rescue crews are headed out to help after violent storms and tornadoes tore through the South and Midwest.

Vermont’s urban search and rescue team, Task Force 1, got the call around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday requesting their help in Kentucky.

Tornadoes ripped through that state, causing major damage. Now, they’re expecting 10-15 inches of rain and flooding.

The Vermont team, consisting of 18 people and one K-9, left at 8 a.m. Thursday. They expect to arrive in Kentucky around midnight.

They are bringing four boats and eight land vehicles to help with water rescues and land searches.

The team is scheduled to be there for two weeks.
