Vermont celebrates Indigenous Peoples Day

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – From serving to the pilgrims survive a harsh winter to talking in a code that helped the Allies win World Conflict II, Vermont is celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day.

It falls on the identical day as Columbus Day as a strategy to honor the individuals who already lived within the nation when Christopher Columbus landed in 1492.

On Twitter, Vermont Gov. Phil Scott stated, “Wishing all Vermonters a cheerful Indigenous Peoples’ Day as we have a good time the various contributions Native People have had in our communities.”

Vermont is one among a few dozen states that formally have a good time Indigenous Peoples Day.
