Man critically injured in shooting at eastern Vermont home, suspect arrested
A man was critically injured in a suspected domestic shooting in eastern Vermont, Monday night, and another man, who lives at the home where the shooting took place, is facing an attempted murder charge.
Vermont State Police said they received a call shortly before 6 p.m. Monday for a report of a shooting at a residence on Hartley Hill Road in Rockingham. When they arrived, they found the victim, an adult male, critically injured.
He was taken by ambulance to Springfield Hospital and later transferred to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
A suspect in the shooting has been taken into custody, state police said, and there is no danger to the public.
The suspected shooter was identified as Burton Lewis Clark, 72, police said. He lives at the home on Hartley Hill Road, but police didn’t share more information about what his relationship with the alleged victim is or what led to the shooting.
He was arrested on charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree aggravated domestic assault with a deadly weapon and reckless endangerment, police said. He was held without bail ahead of an arraignment Tuesday afternoon; it wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney who could speak to the charges.
