Watch Out For Phone Scammers Posing As Officers: Bristol Police

BRISTOL, RI — Bristol police have urged residents to watch out for phone scammers posing as officers.

Police said there is a recent scam of someone calling people claiming to be a police officer to steal money.

“Please be aware that the Bristol police, or any legitimate police agency, will never ask you for money over the phone,” A Bristol police spokesperson said. “We will never request that you deposit money into a Bitcoin ATM, purchase gift cards for payment, or wire us any money.”

Anyone who receives a suspicious call is asked to call Bristol police at 401-253-6900.
