Monday, July 17, 2023
A doctor who was issued a license by the State of Rhode Island in 1990 has now surrendered it, GoLocal has learned.
Boris Bergus’ license had already been suspended a year and a half ago, after state health officials found he was in possession of expired medications.
Now, he has agreed to not seek reinstatement of his license to practice at any time in the future in the State of Rhode Island and pay nearly $15,000 in fines — and fees.

About Investigation and Action
On December 2, 2021, the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) made unannounced visits to Boris Bergus “America’s Vein Centers” in East Greenwich and Lincoln, following multiple complaints.
Records show RIDOH inspectors found at least 50 expired medications and medical supplies at the Lincoln location — with some that were expired as far back as 2009.
On December 8, 2022, RIODH suspended Bergus’ license.
In the consent order and “surrender of license” signed on July 14, 2023 — RIDOH outlined additional complaints which Bergus refuted.
RIDOH however made the following ruling.
“The Investigative Committee of the board reviews the relevant documents and considered Respondent’s responses and make probably cause findings of “Unprofessional Conduct by Respondent,” wrote RIDOH, adding “the Board also imposed fines in the amount of $10,000 and an administrative fee in the amount of $4,750.”
Bergus surrendered his license “without any express admission of wrongdoing” and has agreed not to seek reinstatement to practice in Rhode Island at any point in the future.
