Producer Honeywell has knowledgeable the State of Rhode Island it will likely be closing its private protecting tools facility in Smithfield. 

On Tuesday, GoLocal obtained a duplicate of the WARN letter (Employee Adjustment and Retraining Notification) despatched by the corporate to the Rhode Island Division of Labor and Coaching (DLT), which is required by federal regulation when a facility with greater than 50 staff is closing.

Based on Honeywell, greater than 100 staff on the facility in Smithfield shall be impacted.

Throughout the pandemic, the corporate laid off a whole bunch — as GoLocal reported in Might 2021: 

One of many vibrant spots of the pandemic was the hiring of a whole bunch of staff on the Honeywell Plant in Smithfield to fabricate N95 masks.

Your entire facility shall be closed and all staff on the facility shall be impacted. This closure is anticipated to be everlasting. The anticipated date of the primary separation shall be April 22, 2023.

All affected staff have been notified of their separation dates and that their separation from employment shall be everlasting. These staff are anticipated to be separated from employment starting on April 22, 2023, with all separations achieved by November 17, 2023.

Hooked up is a listing of the job positions, the variety of people who shall be affected, and the anticipated schedule for job losses. There is not going to be any bumping rights for the affected staff, that’s, staff will be unable to displace extra junior staff out of their job positions because of this closure. There isn’t a union representing affected staff.”
