Attorney general’s office says Rhode Island plans to retry Leron Porter in Providence murder case | ABC6
PROVIDENCE, R.I (WLNE) — Rhode Island Legal professional Basic Peter Neronha is planning on retrying Leron Porter after his homicide conviction was thrown out by a federal courtroom Tuesday.
“We’re reviewing the choice and analysis our subsequent steps. It’s our intention to retry Mr. Porter in step with the courtroom’s resolution,” a spokesperson for Neronha stated to ABC 6 Information.
Porter was convicted of the 2011 homicide in Windfall of 17-year-old Tiphany Tallo.
Nevertheless, Porter’s conviction was overturned Tuesday after a federal appeals courtroom stated the prosecutor within the trial struck a juror solely over their race.
Beneath the courtroom order, the state has 90 days to retry Porter or he shall be launched.
Porter was sentenced to life with chance of parole for the homicide.
