PITTSBURG — A two-alarm fireplace destroyed a church Friday morning and continued to supply scorching spots properly into the afternoon, officers stated.

The fireplace at EL Ministries, 310 Central Avenue, didn’t seem to have brought about any accidents, based on Contra Costa Fireplace Safety District spokesman Steve Hill. The doorways to the church have been locked when police and fireplace crews arrived, and subsequent interviews with church officers indicated that no one was inside, Hill stated.

The blaze broke out about 2:45 a.m.

The depth of the fireplace did forestall fireplace crews from getting contained in the constructing. Firefighters attacked it from the skin. It was unclear as of three p.m. whether or not the church had been searched.
