Rooney excited for NFL Draft to come to Pittsburgh

The NFL and VisitPITTSBURGH announced on Wednesday during the NFL Spring League Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee, that Pittsburgh will play host to the 2026 NFL Draft.

“Today we are here to announce that that 2026 NFL Draft has been awarded to the City of Pittsburgh,” said Peter O’Reilly, NFL Executive Vice President of Club Business and League Events, during a press conference that followed the announcement. “We’re thrilled that we’ll be bringing this major free accessible event to the great City, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and do that with a tremendous partner in the Pittsburgh Steelers.”

Steelers President Art Rooney II spoke following the announcement and shared his excitement for the city hosting the draft for the first time and the ability to celebrate the football history that is so prevalent in the city and Western Pennsylvania.

“Thanks to Peter and his staff, and really everybody in the league, for helping us to put this day together,” said Rooney during the press conference. “Everybody in Pittsburgh is going to be extremely excited about hosting the NFL Draft. As we all know, the City of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania have a great tradition, the roots of pro football really are deep in our region. So, we plan to celebrate the history of football and the Mike Ditkas, the Dan Marinos, the Joe Montanas, etc., that came from our area.

“It will be extremely exciting, and we look forward to working with our community to make sure it’s a great event. Obviously, the bar has been set very high lately with some great efforts by Detroit and Kansas City most recently hosting the Draft, and I’m sure Green Bay will be great as well. We’re looking forward to following in that tradition.”

Four Steelers Stealing Show at Minicamp

Four Steelers Stealing Show at Minicamp

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers wrapped up mandatory minicamp or organized team activities this week at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex and the makings of a strong squad are clear with some stars emerging from the fray.

After four weeks of practices, Nick Herbig, Jaylen Warren, Van Jefferson and Calvin Austin III have looked like they are ready to lift the Steelers with massive seasons after strong starts in preseason practices. As the offense looks for a bonafide No. 2 option next to George Pickens and the running game figures to feature prominently, Warren, Jefferson and Austin making strides are critical for the Steelers.

But there are some off-the-field topics that had to be addressed. Najee Harris was absent for the first day of minicamp with approval from head coach Mike Tomlin. Then he spent the next two days on the sidelines as a non-participant. Whether or not this relates to Harris’ contract situation is unclear but Steelers general manager Omar Khan said that the team is still open to possibly signing Harris to a long-term deal, despite declining to pick up his fifth-year contract extension.

The Steelers head into a break now but the news never stops. There are still plenty of preparations to make and details to sort out before they arrive at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania to get their 2024 season underway.

Dak Prescott Will Be the Pittsburgh Steelers Franchise Quarterback in 2025

Dak Prescott Will Be the Pittsburgh Steelers Franchise Quarterback in 2025

It seems as if Dak Prescott will be no longer on the Dallas Cowboys after 2024. With Prescott set to be a free agent, there is one team that will make the ideal fit for him and make him their franchise quarterback. That team is the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Prescott has been able to provide quality play over his career so far, with 29,459 yards and 202 touchdowns. There are inconsistencies in Prescott’s game from time to time, but overall, he has shown his capabilities as a high-level player in the NFL that has done a good job of elevating the talent around him as well.

For the Steelers, they need that kind of quarterback. After two seasons of mediocre play from Pickett, they turned to bringing in Russell Wilson and Justin Fields for the season. Wilson is turning 36, and while he’s coming off a better season with the Denver Broncos, it is still one where he put up 3,070 yards, and 26 touchdowns. Very average numbers, it won the Broncos games, but kept them at a ceiling.

With Justin Fields, he has the athleticism to uplift an offense and provide a different dynamic. The thing with Fields is his decision-making and instincts leave room to be questioned heavily with some of the choices he makes. Fields has the rushing ability and is a lot younger to operate the offense, but those flaws are hard to instill confidence in him fully.

With Prescott, he has shown the ability to make better decisions while also having more rushing upside. With a receiver room of at least George Pickens, and Roman Wilson, it would arguably be the highest upside wide receiver duo Prescott has played with. Prescott would then be able to uplift the rest of the offensive talent further with his ability to diagnose defenses and get the best out of his teammates. Prescott is the ideal quarterback to fit the Steelers’ offensive system and become their franchise quarterback.
