14 Years Later: Remembering fallen Pittsburgh Police officers Paul Sciullo, Stephen Mayhle, and Eric Kelly

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Fourteen years in the past in the present day, three Pittsburgh Cops paid the final word sacrifice and had been shot and killed within the line of responsibility whereas responding to a home name within the metropolis’s Stanton Heights neighborhood.

It was an early Saturday morning on April 4, 2009, when officers had been dispatched to Fairfield Road. 

Officers Paul Sciullo and Stephen Mayhle had been each ambushed when responding to the decision on the dwelling. One other officer, Eric Kelly, was shot whereas responding to the scene and trying to assist his fellow officers who had been wounded.

A standoff with the suspect, Richard Poplawski, lasted a number of hours following the ambush. Two different officers had been wounded.

Poplawski was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder and was sentenced to demise by deadly injection.
