1 officer killed, another injured in McKeesport shooting; Johnathan Morris charged with homicide
MCKEESPORT, Pa. (KDKA) — One officer was killed, one other was wounded and a suspect was shot in McKeesport on Monday afternoon.
Allegheny County Police Superintendent Christopher Kearns mentioned McKeesport officers have been dispatched to Wilson Avenue round 12:11 p.m. for a home name and was warned the suspect was armed.
When officers obtained there, they discovered a suspect having a “psychological well being disaster,” Kearns mentioned.
The suspect, later recognized as Johnathan Morris, walked from Wilson Avenue to Grandview Avenue, and Kearns mentioned when the suspect encountered the officers, he pulled out a handgun and shot them.
One of many officers was fatally wounded. Kearns mentioned he was taken to UPMC however medical doctors could not save his life. The second officer was critically wounded and flown to the hospital however is now in secure situation, Kearns mentioned.
The McKeesport police chief recognized the fallen officer as Sean Sluganski and the injured officer as Charles Thomas, who has been launched from the hospital.
