Vice President Kamala Harris expected at last Buffalo shooting victim’s funeral

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The final of the victims of a gunman’s racist assault on a Buffalo grocery store can be laid to relaxation Saturday.

Ruth Whitfield, at 86, is the oldest of the ten individuals killed. Whitfield is anticipated to be eulogized by civil rights activist the Rev. Al Sharpton at a service attended by Vice President Kamala Harris.

Whitfield was contained in the Tops Pleasant Market after visiting her husband of 68 years in a nursing residence Could 14 when a gunman recognized by police as 18-year-old Payton Gendron opened hearth.

Authorities mentioned Gendron, who’s white, focused the shop three hours from his residence in Conklin as a result of it’s in a predominantly Black neighborhood.

In all, 13 individuals had been shot within the assault which federal authorities are investigating as a hate crime. Three individuals survived.

Whitfield was the mom of former Buffalo Hearth Commissioner Garnell Whitfield. Her funeral will happen at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Buffalo.

Gendron is charged with first-degree homicide and is being held with out bail. His legal professional has entered a plea of not responsible on his behalf.
