Officials at airport seize cocaine stashed in wheelchair

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Federal authorities say a person has been arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina, after he was stopped within the metropolis’s airport with greater than 23 kilos (greater than 10 kilograms) of cocaine hid within the seat cushions of a motorized wheelchair.

U. S. Customs and Border Safety officers encountered the traveler as he was arriving at Charlotte Douglas Worldwide Airport from the Dominican Republic this week, in accordance with a Friday information launch.

“His solutions did not match up. His bodily purported handicap didn’t match up. That was a tell-tale signal that there was one thing suspicious,” Mike Prado, a Homeland Safety Investigations deputy particular agent, instructed WSOC-TV.

The 4 packages containing cocaine had been found inside the seat cushions and had an estimated road worth of $378,000, in accordance with the information launch.

The 22-year-old man was charged with trafficking in cocaine. Officers say he was a lawful, everlasting U.S. resident.
