In downtown Pottstown, a fire at a four-floor apartment building forced everyone inside to evacuate.

The fire broke out around 6:30 p.m. Saturday on the second floor of Auchenbach Apartments. About 40 people had to leave.

Officials say the fire was caused by an electrical issue. Crews knocked out the flames quickly, but there was extensive smoke on the second floor.

“We evacuated the victims from the second floor pretty quickly and eventually the whole building was evacuated just to make sure everything was safe,” said Pottstown Fire Chief Frank Hand.

Fortunately no one was hurt, and everyone is being allowed back into the building tonight.
