HARRISBURG, Pa. — Pennsylvania’s deer-hunting season in now in full swing, the state’s game commission announced in its first press release of the season.
According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC), deer hunting season runs from Saturday, Nov. 25 through Saturday, Dec. 9 — only excluding Sunday, Dec. 3.
In 2021 — the most recent year for which statistics are available — the National Deer Association (NDA) said Pennsylvania topped the country in hunter density with 14.4 hunters per square mile during deer hunting season. Only New York (12), Wisconsin (11.4) and New Jersey (10.5) hit double digits,
The PGC says hunters should expect similar crowds this year.
“Pennsylvania’s firearms deer season is truly a tradition unlike any other,” said PGC executive director Bryan Burhans. “We’ve got lots of deer and lots of hunters pursuing them, some from camps far from home, others in woodlots and fields near where they live. But all share the same passion for wildlife, hunting and conservation. That’s something special.”
This year, the PGC says hunters are permitted to harvest one antlered deer with a valid general hunting license, which costs $20.97 for adult residents and $101.97 for adult nonresidents.
