Giant Eagle is no longer the most dominant grocery store in Western Pennsylvania.

According to our partners at TribLIVE.com data from Chain Store Guise said Walmart had 25.64% of the region’s shoppers while Giant Eagle sat slightly below with 21.4%, despite being the hometown grocer.

Sam’s Club was the third most popular grocery store in the area, with 10% of shoppers in our area going there for their eggs, milk and produce.

Shoppers from Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland counties and other areas in the region spent around $6.98 billion on groceries in 2022.
