New York AG orders Manhattan hospital to resume gender-transition treatment for transgender youth

New York Attorney General Letitia James is instructing a Manhattan hospital to resume offering gender-transition treatment to transgender youth after it ended such treatments last month over funding threats from the Trump administration.
NYU Langone’s decision to close its Transgender Youth Health Program violated the state’s anti-discrimination laws by “jeopardizing access to medically necessary healthcare for some of the most vulnerable New Yorkers,” James wrote in a Feb. 25 letter first made public this week.
James’ office threatened “further action” if the hospital does not immediately resume offering hormone therapies, puberty blockers and other treatment to transgender youth.

NYU Langone, one of the city’s largest hospital systems, said last month it would stop providing certain gender-transition treatments for patients under the age of 19.
“Given the recent departure of our medical director, coupled with the current regulatory environment, we made the difficult decision to discontinue our Transgender Youth Health Program,” NYU Langone spokesman Steve Ritea said in a statement at the time. “We are committed to helping patients in our care manage this change. This does not impact our pediatric mental health care programs, which will continue.”
The hospital ceased admitting new patients into its transgender youth program last year after President Donald Trump signed an executive order entitled “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation,” which aims to restrict gender-transition treatment for people under 19.

But the Feb. 25 letter signed by the attorney general’s health care bureau chief, Darsana Srinivasan, said the proposal did not officially change federal law and did not affect a “medical institution’s existing duties and obligations under New York law.”
“The sudden discontinuation of medically necessary transgender healthcare can have severe, negative health outcomes,” Srinivasan wrote. “Accordingly, the Attorney General is extremely concerned by your institution’s decision to cease the provision of care to this vulnerable, minority population.”

The letter gives the hospital until March 11 to show its compliance, although it is unclear what steps would be taken if it fails to resume the treatments.
Several other hospitals across the country have also halted transgender youth treatments following Trump’s executive order and funding threats.

A Pennsylvania man who brought a gun and other weapons to a rally in West Chester last year has been sentenced to more than three years behind bars.
A federal judge sentenced Kevin Krebs, 32, of Malvern, Pennsylvania, to 37 months in prison and three years of supervised release for possessing unregistered explosive devices, officials announced Tuesday.
Krebs was arrested on June 14, 2025, in the area of North High Street in West Chester, near a “No Kings” protest against President Trump’s deportation policies and other actions by his administration.
Police arrested Krebs with a fully loaded concealed Sig Sauer P320 handgun under a yellow raincoat, an M9 bayonet, a pocket knife, pepper spray, a ski mask and gloves. Court documents showed police also found an AR-15-style rifle on the floor of Kreb’s SUV. Investigators said Krebs did not have a concealed carry permit.
Investigators found over a dozen improvised explosive devices, including pipe bombs, at his home on Conestoga Road days after his arrest.
Krebs pleaded guilty to the federal charges in December.
A state case against Krebs is still pending.
Lixeandro Andrade, 28, and Zahir Fortes, 19, were both arrested Monday on charges of carrying a pistol or firearm without a license and large capacity feeding devices prohibited, the state police said in a media release.
Andrade and Fortes were processed at the Lincoln Woods Barracks and arraigned, according to the release.
Two people were injured when an SUV drove into a swimming pool at the popular Smugglers’ Notch Resort in Cambridge, Vermont, on Monday afternoon.
Vermont State Police said the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. Monday when the vehicle drove through a fence and landed in the pool, where it became stuck.
“I just heard a bang and a car went there,” 9-year-old Joseph Sage told WPTZ. “It hit my head and it pulled me under.”
He said his dad pulled him and another girl out of the pool.
State police confirmed two people suffered minor injuries and were treated by members of the Cambridge Rescue Squad.
The SUV was pulled out of the water several hours later and towed away.
Photos shared by Notch Road Auto Repair, Towing and Recovery showed the vehicle partially submerged in the pool and also being towed out afterward.
A state police trooper was seen placing a person in handcuffs and putting them in the back of a cruiser. Witnesses told WPTZ hat the person taken into custody was the driver of the SUV, but state police did not release any details on charges being filed in connection with the crash.
Resort officials said nothing like this ever happened before. They said the speed limit on the property is 14 miles an hour, and encouraged people to be extra cautious and attentive while driving there. The pool remains closed until furher notice, the resort said.
