Murphy taps Taffet for Rutgers board – New Jersey Globe

Adding some gravitas to the leadership of Rutgers University, Gov. Phil Murphy has nominated one of the state’s most influential political insiders, Gary Taffet, to serve on the Board of Governors.

He was picked to replace Kevin Egan, who resigned to take his seat in the New Jersey State Assembly.

The move potentially positions Taffet to play a strong role in the selection of a new Rutgers president whenever Jonathan Holloway decides to move on.

A former chief of staff to Gov. James E. McGreevey, Taffet served on the New Jersey Legislative Apportionment Commission and has been a trustee of Middlesex County College.  The Rutgers alum is the division president of Reliance Insurance Group.
