NEWPORT, N.H. (WCAX) – A potential threat led to a school scare in Newport, New Hampshire, on Wednesday.

Police say they were notified Wednesday morning of a potential online threat to students and staff in the Newport School District.

The district placed all schools in a secure campus protective measure.

Police later determined the threat was not specifically directed toward the district and there was no concern for public safety.

Following the incident, school officials say they will now send out notifications to families with safety alerts.
