Nikki Haley now tied with DeSantis in New Hampshire: poll
Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley is now neck-and-neck with fellow candidate Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in New Hampshire, a new poll shows.
The former South Carolina governor, 51, who had been trailing DeSantis, 44, in the Granite State, tied with the Sunshine State gov at 10% apiece among New Hampshire’s likely GOP primary voters in the new NMB Research survey.
New Hampshire is considered key for GOP presidential candidates because early next year, it will hold the party’s first official primary — with the results typically helping to make or break campaigns.
Still, former President Donald Trump, 77, continues to wallop Haley, DeSantis and all the other candidates in the crowded Republican field, with a staggering 47% support, the survey shows.
No other contender was able to broach double digits in the poll in New Hampshire, which will host the second Republican primary contest overall, after the Iowa caucus.
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and multimillionaire biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy each clinched 8% of support in the latest state poll of GOPers.
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) got 5%, while former Vice President Mike Pence, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and all other contestants drew less than that.
The most recent RealClearPolitics aggregate involving Republican candidates’ positioning in New Hampshire does not include this latest poll but showed Trump far ahead at 44.3%, followed by DeSantis at 13.3%, Christie at 8%, Scott at 7.5%, Ramaswamy at 6%, Burgum at 4.5% and Haley at 3.8%.
The poll comes after the first debate Aug. 23 among all the candidates except Trump, who balked at attending.
The survey sampled 800 likely Republican voters between Aug. 25 and 31 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.46 percentage points.
DeSantis was recently sidelined from the campaign trail to tend to his duties in Florida, which was ravaged by Hurricane Idalia late last month. His campaign announced plans to resume activities later this week.
Nationally, Trump is a whopping 39.3 percentage points ahead of DeSantis, his nearest foe, according to the aggregate.
Haley is poised to barnstorm through the Granite State this week with a bevy of events, including a town hall on parental rights in education, before heading down to her home state of South Carolina.
On Tuesday, Haley’s campaign announced a slate of 10 county chairs. By the end of the week, she will have swung through all 10 counties in the state and engaged in at least 49 events.
