FOXBORO — A local man was seriously injured while hiking with his son in the White Mountains in New Hampshire over the weekend.
Michael Kelly, 35, was carrying his young son on Greeley Ponds Trail in Livermore on Sunday when he lost his balance and fell on wet, slippery mud while attempting to cross a wooden board section, according to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.
A Good Samaritan passing by used her cellphone to text 911 for help about noon.
Conservation officers and volunteers from the Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team hiked just over a half-mile to Kelly’s location and arrived just after 1 p.m. They stabilized his injuries and got back to the trailhead about an hour later.
Kelly suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Concord Hospital in Concord for further evaluation and treatment, according to the department.
The trail leads from the Kancamagus Highway in Lincoln, N.H. to the Greeley Ponds Scenic Area in Livermore. It goes through the forest with minor inclines along the way and there are a few boardwalks over wet areas, according to the N.H. Family Hike website.
