Food stamps: Maine monthly SNAP payment worth average of $168 begins distribution in nine days

Those who receive food stamp benefits in the state of Maine will begin to see their monthly payments for buying groceries in nine days.

Benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in the Pine Tree State are distributed from the 10th to the 14th of every month. For this month, beneficiaries will begin to see their payments on Aug. 10, with all having their benefits by Aug. 14.

Food stamps are distributed on a set schedule every month that is dependent on the day a recipient was born.

Recipients born on days ending in 0 or 9 get their benefits on July 10, those born on days ending in 1 or 8 get their benefits on July 11, those born on days ending in 2 or 3 get their benefits on July 12, those born on days ending in 4 or 7 get their benefits on July 13, and those born on days ending in 5 or 6 get their benefits on July 14.

The average SNAP benefit payment per household member in the Pine Tree State is $168, with about 12% of the state’s population, or approximately 161,800 people, receiving assistance paying for groceries via the food stamps program.

In order to qualify for food stamps in Maine, one must not make more than a certain income depending on the size of a person’s household. For a household of one, the maximum annual income is $26,973, while for a household of five, the maximum annual income is $65,009.

SNAP benefits in Maine may be used for food, groceries, and seeds, but they may not be used for prepared meals.
