$1 milllion Powerball prize sold in CT, $842.4 million jackpot claimed
Powerball lottery tickets.
A $1 million prize was won during Monday night’s Powerball drawing while the game’s jackpot was hit after growing for nearly three months. The winning ticket correctly guessed five of the numbers drawn, but did not correctly have the red Powerball number.
The $1 million ticket was sold at the Camaro Mini Mart at 487 Monroe Turnpike in Monroe, according to the Connecticut Lottery. It remains unclaimed, and will expire on June 29 if it remains unclaimed.
According to Connecticut General Statutes Section 12-806, the Connecticut Lottery “may retain unclaimed prize funds as additional revenue for the State, for promotions used to increase sales or to return to the participants in a manner designed to increase sales.”
In total, more than 21,000 prize-winning tickets were sold in Connecticut during Monday’s drawing with prizes ranging from $4 to $1,000,000. Meanwhile, the $842 million jackpot was won in Michigan after going months without being won. The last Powerball jackpot, worth $1.765 billion, and drawn on Oct. 11, was the second largest lottery prize ever in the U.S. The Powerball jackpot will return to $20 million for Wednesday night’s drawing.
