A bomb-detecting robotic constructed by Boston Dynamics was noticed patrolling the Esplanade Friday in anticipation of July 4 festivities.
The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular will return to the Hatch Memorial Shell on Charles River Esplanade on Monday, after a three-year hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Police are taking extra security measures for the occasion, which is the primary large-scale Fourth of July celebration town’s seen since 2019.
Authorities mentioned they plan to supply safety by land, air, and water. State police instructed NBC Boston that the 6-month-old bomb squad robotic’s identify is Roscoe and can be a part of Monday’s safety measures.
In keeping with CBS Boston, the state police bomb squad has two of the robots, which might climb stairs, traverse tough terrain, and match into small areas. The robotic also can clear suspicious packages and seize video for investigators.
As a part of Monday’s safety measures, guests are requested to hold as few objects as potential, and are prohibited from bringing alcohol, glass containers, weapons, and backpacks to the venue.
