James Taylor performs, Don Law honored, at Boston Arts Academy fundraiser – The Boston Globe
Law, whose career started in 1960s-era rock clubs, now is chairman of Live Nation-New England, a part operator of the MGM Music Hall. Taylor, New England’s best-loved musical artist, performed as a tribute to Law, his longtime friend.
Performers, designers, creators, or philanthropists were also honored at the academy’s annual honors event.
They were: Debbie Allen, an actress, dancer, choreographer, and Golden Globe Award winner for dance; June Ambrose, creative director, costume designer, and entrepreneur for fashion; Dr. Amy Boger, a retired pediatrician and ceramic sculptor, and her husband, Dr. Joshua Boger, a pharmaceutical pioneer and underwater photographer, for visual arts; Christy Cashman, actress, producer, philanthropist, and author, for television and film.
Katherine Chapman Stemberg, board member at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and the Brookline Music School and an Overseer of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, was honored in the civic responsibility category.
The event also featured exhibits and performances by students, who hail from every Boston neighborhood. An album by the school’s choir, the Spiritual Ensemble, is currently on Billboard’s Classical and Crossover charts.
“The Boston Arts Academy is a unique and special place, a beacon of hope for students with a passion for the arts,” Denella Clark, the foundation’s chief executive officer said in a statement. “I am proud that the Boston Arts Academy has distinguished itself among urban public high schools as a leader in innovative and effective student-centered education, rich in the arts.”
