Meghan Hutchinson of Greene recently was honored by the Boston Celtics as a Hero Among Us.

During October’s mass shooting in Lewiston, Hutchinson’s quick reflexes and bravery undoubtedly saved lives. While the Greene resident was at her daughter Zoey’s bowling practice at Just-In-Time Recreation, Hutchinson heard the distressing sound of gunshots, and immediately guided Zoey and others to safety amidst the chaos, according to a news release from Spencer Gossy of the Regan Communications Group.

As chaos erupted and Zoey was grazed by a bullet, Hutchinson’s maternal instinct kicked in. She swiftly rearranged the room’s layout, strategically positioning furniture and shelves as a barricade. Even amidst the unfolding chaos outside, her actions ensured the safety of those sheltering within.

For her courage, selfless acts, and life-saving actions during the devastating event, Hutchinson was honored as a Hero Among Us during the Boston Celtics home game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Dec. 1.

Since its establishment in 1997 by the Boston Celtics, the Heroes Among Us program has recognized outstanding individuals who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to their communities. The award is presented at every Celtics home game and pays tribute to the heroic achievements of these outstanding citizens.
