A rescue canine turned police mascot has turn out to be one in all Brazil’s most beloved furry web sensations.

Dubbed “Corporal Oliveira,” the canine was taken in by Rio police officer Cristiano Oliveira, who discovered him in 2019 close to his police station deserted, injured and hungry.

The canine – decked out in a police uniform with a toy gun strapped in and sun shades – has turn out to be the official mascot of the Rio de Janeiro Army Police’s seventeenth batallion, patrolling alongside his officer and working beside motorbikes.

“I took a coat, a police shirt and put it on him as a joke. I took an image and despatched it to our station’s roster teams and posted them there,” stated Oliveira. “After which the joke began going viral.”

“If I don’t put up an image for 3 days individuals are already demanding ‘The place is Oliveira?’ ‘The place did Oliveira go?’” stated the officer, laughing.
