Two gun safety bills deferred in South Dakota House

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) – Two gun safety bills were deferred to the 41st legislative day. Both bills were primarily sponsored by Representative Linda Duba of Minnehaha County.

House Bill 1153 would mandate gun owners to file a timely formal report if their firearms were discovered to be missing or stolen. This bill was deferred with a vote of ten to one.

House Bill 1174 would require firearms to be stored in a safe or other locked container unless they were under the control of their owner, trigger-locked, or non-functional. This bill was deferred with a vote of thirteen to zero.

The 41st legislative day is after the end of this legislative session, so it is very unlikely that either bill will be passed.
