Two Elk Point-Jefferson wrestlers, one from Vermillion place third at South Dakota state tournament

RAPID CITY — 4 boys from Southeast South Dakota earned third place finishes on the state wrestling event over the weekend.

Two different space wrestlers additionally received medals by putting eighth or increased.

Elk Level-Jefferson senior Ben Swatek (42-2) received a 3-2 resolution over Carter Randall of McCook Central/Montrose within the Class B 160-pound third place match.

Swatek’s teammate, senior Gavin Jacobs (25-4) took third with a 4-3 resolution over Gunnar Stephens of Burke/Gregory within the 170-pound weight class.

A 3rd Huskies wrestler, Noah McDermott (28-13), completed eighth after dropping a 3-1 resolution Mason Heath of Philip Space at 182 kilos.

Vermillion sophomore Michael Roob (34-9) received third place in Class A at 138 kilos with a sudden victory 3-1 resolution over Ayden Dooley of Sioux Falls Jefferson.

Dakota Valley sophomore Jackson Boonstra (36-8) completed sixth in Class A 145 kilos after dropping a 2-0 resolution to Chandler Carda of West Central.

Within the ladies state event, Yankton senior Nevaeh Leonard captured the state title at 142 kilos.  The senior (36-2) received by tiebreaker over Ali Bissell of Sioux Falls Roosevelt within the championship match.
