SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – This week is National Workzone Awareness Week, and the South Dakota Department of Transportation is celebrating with some brand new billboards designed by local students.

The statewide billboard coloring campaign features artwork with construction work zones and safety.

Officials said it’s always fun to see the designs the kids come up with every year.

“A lot of people had like cones and cars and you know, barrels. We had a lot of submissions, it was just kind of fun to see all the kids’ imaginations and see what they could come up with,” said SD DOT Engineering Supervisor Kirk Henderson.

Our team stopped by St. Michael Elementary to meet one of the winners, Aubree, whose design will be featured on I-229 between Western Avenue and Minnesota Avenue.
