Inmate died in cell according to South Dakota DOC
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota Information Now) – In line with the South Dakota Division of Corrections, an inmate has died of an obvious suicide.
The report signifies the 60-year-old inmate, John Lewis, was discovered unresponsive in his cell on the Jameson Annex to the South Dakota State Penitentiary on July 13. Apparently, authorities did try and resuscitate Lewis however had been unsuccessful.
Officers say Lewis was serving two life sentences for tried first-degree homicide and an extra 120 years for grand theft, possession of a managed weapon, and possession of a managed substance. The entire convictions are from Minnehaha County.
