Ohio student assaults teacher in class, puts her in hospital, police say

COLERAIN, Ohio — A 60-year-old teacher was hospitalized with serious injuries after she was assaulted by a student in a high school classroom in southwest Ohio, police say.

A news release from the Colerain Police Department says the 15-year-old student has been charged with felonious assault. The student was taken to the Hamilton County Juvenile Justice Center.

The reported assault occurred at about 2:18 p.m. Thursday at Colerain High School, police say. WEWS Channel 5 reports that police say the student had taken an unknown drug and began “acting distraught.”

The student is accused of punching the teacher in the head. She was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. WEWS reports the teacher received “extensive medical treatment.”

The student also was treated at a hospital for self-inflicted injuries before being taken to the juvenile center, police say.

Colerain High School is located in a suburb of Cincinnati.
