Ohio State football linebacker Cody Simon to return next season
Ohio State senior linebacker Cody Simon is returning next season.
Simon said Tuesday that he will use his extra year of eligibility from the coronavirus pandemic to remain with the Buckeyes in 2024.
The return of Simon leaves the Buckeyes with a potential replacement for Tommy Eichenberg as the starting middle linebacker if Eichenberg leaves for the NFL rather than use his COVID-exempt year.
Simon started 10 games in 2021 and has since been an integral part of the rotation, often used as part of three-linebacker packages. He had 45 tackles this fall, the sixth-most among the Buckeyes this fall.
