Northeast Ohio road projects: Areas commuters might want to avoid this week

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Commuters in the Northeast Ohio will want to stay alert for new detours and road closures.

The Ohio Department of Transportation has updated its list of road closures this week because of ongoing construction projects:

West 14th Street to Valentine Avenue: This section will be closed between 12 a.m. and 5 a.m. Monday for overhead sign construction as part of the Interchange improvement to Interstate71/Ohio 176 just south of Interstate 90. The detour for Ohio 176 is West 14th Street to Clar Avenue, to Scranton Road to Metrohealth Drive, to West 25th Street to I-71 ,to Fulton Road to Denison Avenue.

The detour for I-71 is I-71 to West 14th Street, to Clark Avenue to Scranton Road, to Metrohealth Drive to West 25th Street, to I-71.

Eastbound Valentine Avenue and West 14th to I-71 south and Ohio 176 south: This will be closed between 12 a.m. and 5 a.m. Tuesday for overhead sign construction. The detour for Ohio 176 is West 14th Street to Clar Avenue, to Scranton Road to Metrohealth Drive, to West 25th Street to I-71, to Fulton Road to Denison Ave.

The detour for I-71 is to West 14th Street, Clark Avenue to Scranton Road, to Metrohealth Drive to West 25th Street, to I-71.

The detour for Valentine Avenue east is Scranton Road to Metrohealth Drive, to West 25th Street to I-71, to Fulton Road to Denison Avenue, to SR 176.

Interstate 76/77 Akron Beltway reconstruction: The ramp from I-76 westbound to East Avenue will reopen at 6 a.m. today. The detour is I-76 west/I-77 north to Vernon Odom Boulevard to East Avenue.

Beginning at 6 a.m. today, I-76 westbound between Dart Avenue and Bowery Street will have various lane restrictions through 3 p.m. Tuesday.

On Monday and continuing through Wednesday, Inman Street under I-76 will be closed daily between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. for bridge repairs. The southbound detour will be Johnston Street to Arlington Street to Fifth Street. The northbound detour is Lovers Lane to Brown Street to Johnston Street.

South Street between Ohio 93/Manchester Road and Lakeshore Boulevard is closed through Wednesday for sanitary sewer repairs. The northbound detour is Manchester Road to Thornton Street, to Rhodes Avenue to Lakeshore Boulevard to South Street. The southbound detour is Manchester Road to Fourth Street, to Kenmore Boulevard to Lakeshore Boulevard.

Russell Avenue between Bowery Street and Schumacher Street is closed through Wednesday for sanitary sewer repairs. The westbound detour is Boulevard Street to Dart Avenue, to Thornton Street to Ohio 93/Manchester Road, to Lakeshore Boulevard to South Street.

At 10 p.m. on Nov. 27, the ramp from I-76 west to I-77 south will be closed through late November 2024. The detour will be I-76 westbound to I-76/Kenmore Leg to I-277/US 224 eastbound to I-77.
