Joel Klatt: Should Ohio State, Alabama make CFP if TCU, USC lose?

There isn’t a lot consternation over the newest Faculty Soccer Playoff rankings because the order of Tuesday’s prime 4 was obvious Saturday night. The one debate remaining is who shall be included within the CFP if any of these 4 groups lose their respective convention championship video games.

Joel Klatt asserted the nation’s three unbeaten groups — No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Michigan and No. 3 TCU — ought to (and can) make the playoff no matter this weekend’s outcomes.

“I don’t imagine that these top-three undefeateds are going wherever, even when they lose,” he stated on Wednesday’s version of “The Joel Klatt Present.” “On this championship recreation weekend, I don’t suppose these groups, specifically the highest three, ought to be penalized for qualifying for these video games and for profitable each one in all their video games up up to now. They’re all 12-0, they’re all taking part in for his or her convention title, and even when they had been to lose, I feel they belong within the Faculty Soccer Playoff.”

The CFP committee acquired it proper with USC, Alabama, Michigan and others

Joel Klatt discusses the Faculty Soccer Playoff rankings and the way the highest six are right.

The dialog shall be moot on Choice Sunday if Georgia beats No. 14 LSU for the SEC championship, Michigan beats Purdue for the Large Ten title, TCU tops No. 10 Kansas State for the Large 12 championship and No. 4 USC beats No. 11 Utah for the Pac-12 title. However losses from the highest 4 open the door for No. 5 Ohio State and No. 6 Alabama, neither of whom are taking part in this weekend.

Klatt is adamant that the Crimson Tide, who would presumably want at the least two groups ranked forward of them to lose, shouldn’t make the CFP. His main logic is Alabama, with two losses within the common season, doesn’t should usurp an unbeaten group that certified for an additional recreation.

“I don’t see a means by which Bama wins an argument towards any of these three,” Klatt stated. “I feel that’s fairly clear with Georgia. … Michigan would solely have one loss they usually have the very best win within the nation. … Everybody’s saying if TCU and USC lose, possibly Bama’s acquired a path. Actually? I really don’t view it that means. First, lets at the least consider with clear eyes that TCU has 12 wins. Bama can’t get greater than 10. That, in and of itself, actually ought to do it. However then you possibly can even go to the résumé.”

It might present that Alabama’s greatest win got here at Texas, a group that TCU additionally beat on the highway. The Horned Frogs, nevertheless, even have a win towards Kansas State, which might additionally symbolize their lone defeat in the event that they had been to fall in Saturday’s Large 12 title recreation.

Ought to TCU make the CFB forward of Alabama?

Should TCU make the CFB ahead of Alabama?

Joel Klatt takes a take a look at TCU’s 12-0 report and explains why the Horned Frogs should make the CFP forward of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

That leaves Ohio State as the one group outdoors the highest 4 that Klatt feels has a case to make the CFP. However he wouldn’t choose the Buckeyes over the Horned Frogs, ought to the latter lose to Kansas State on Saturday. Such a state of affairs would probably stir the strongest debate attainable concerning the ultimate area.

“At that time, Kansas State goes to be proper subsequent to Penn State,” Klatt stated. “So, the 2 wins that the 2 groups have are principally equal, and on this regard, you’d simply be penalizing TCU for dropping a recreation that they certified to play as an additional recreation. … I don’t suppose Ohio State is a risk to TCU, in the event that they had been to lose, clearly to not Michigan, and I don’t suppose to Georgia, both.

“I imagine that Ohio State’s solely alternative to get into the playoff is that if USC loses.”

Whereas Klatt objects to penalizing a group for reaching its convention championship, he feels the Buckeyes’ regular-season résumé narrowly eclipses the Trojans’. Ohio State’s greatest win got here at No. 8 Penn State. USC’s is at No. 15 Oregon State. The Buckeyes’ loss was a blowout at residence to unbeaten Michigan. The Trojans’ got here on the highway by some extent, however to a Utah group that may nonetheless probably be rated under Penn State.

Add in one other loss to the Utes on Friday, and USC’s case to be the primary group chosen to the CFP with two defeats isn’t that compelling.

“We’re taking part in for one closing spot,” Klatt opined. “USC win, you’re in. If you happen to lose, you’re in all probability going to lose that argument to Ohio State. All people else – win, lose – you’re in. Georgia, Michigan, TCU, go begin getting ready [for the CFP]. By the way in which, in all probability Michigan-TCU are already matched up towards one another within the Fiesta Bowl.”

Ohio’s first Zaxby’s is coming to Greater Cincinnati

Zaxby’s, a popular fried chicken chain, is getting its first Ohio location in Liberty Township.

A 56-seat Zaxby’s restaurant and drive-thru is planned to open at Freedom Pointe, next to Costco. The development, which was initially planned to be a hotel, will also house three other eateries: E+O Kitchen, which has locations at The Banks, Hyde Park and Loveland; Bismarck Donut and Coffee Shop and El Rancho Grande, said Christy Gloyd, Liberty Township’s marketing and events manager.

Costco opened near Interstate 75 on Cox Road in 2022. Construction on the new restaurants starts this summer, Gloyd said.

“We’re just really excited to be growing over there at Freedom Pointe,” she told The Enquirer. “Having Costco as the anchor is huge. Just to have another family-friendly restaurant and have the variety – to have the Zaxby’s and E+O and El Rancho Grande – I think it’s really going to be a nice offering for our residents.”

Atlanta-headquartered Zaxby’s has over 900 locations in 17 states, mostly in the South and Midwest. The chain is known for its chicken fingers and wings, sandwiches and salads. The closest Zaxby’s locations currently open are over an hour away, in Shelbyville, Indiana and Louisville, Kentucky.

Don’t tell Jolene. Dolly Parton license plate now available in Ohio

Sales for license plates featuring Dolly Parton’s face began Monday for $25. All proceeds will go to fund her Imagination Library

Fans of country music legend Dolly Parton can show off their pride for the singer with a new Ohio license plate.

Ohio drivers can now purchase license plates featuring Parton for $25. The money from each plate will go to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio, a charity that gives children ages 5 and younger a free book each month. The state began selling the plates Monday.

Specifically, the funds will go to the purchaser’s local county program of the library, which it says will pay for mailing a child 12 books, enough for an entire year. Ohio is the second state to offer a license plate supporting the library after Parton’s home state of Tennessee.

First lady Fran DeWine has focused on expanding the Imagination Library in Ohio since her husband Gov. Mike DeWine took office in 2019. She was inspired when she saw her grandchildren receive books through the program and by 2020, it had expanded to all of Ohio’s 88 counties.

“I’m excited to see Ohio as the second state to offer a specialty Dolly Parton license plate to support her program, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, in Ohio,” Fran DeWine said in a press release. “With each purchase, $25 will go back to supporting the local program, helping to ensure the program remains available to all families in Ohio.”

The plates are available to purchase online at OPlates.com or in-person at a local deputy registrar license agency.

Gov. DeWine signed House Bill 315 which included the Parton Plates on Jan. 2. The original bill, sponsored by Senate Minority Leader Nickie Antonio, D-Lakewood, received unanimous yes votes in both chambers before the license plate language was put into the larger HB 315.
