Woman leads police on vehicle chase into Minot

MINOT, N.D. — A North Dakota woman faces multiple charges after leading police on a lengthy pursuit from rural McHenry County into Minot and causing a crash on Thursday, Aug. 24.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Department responded to a domestic incident east of Voltaire, North Dakota, around 7:40 p.m., according to a report from the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Voltaire is roughly 30 miles southeast of Minot.

A deputy located a 2006 Toyota Corolla, driven by 26-year-old Tia Gomez, and attempted a traffic stop along Highway 52, the report said. Gomez fled from the scene and traveled westbound on Highway 52 at a high rate of speed.

After highway patrol and Ward County sheriff’s deputies responded to the area, tire disabling spikes were utilized and deflated two of the vehicle’s tires, according to the report.

Gomez continued to flee into Minot before rear-ending a 2010 Ford Escape, driven by 32-year-old Andres Carranza, at Valley Street and 13th Steet Southeast, the report said. The crash shut down traffic in the area for roughly 90 minutes.

Gomez, of Voltaire, suffered injuries that were not life threatening, highway patrol said, while she faces multiple charges stemming from the incident.

Carranza, of Minot, was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by highway patrol.
