GRAND FORKS — Eastern North Dakota is in a wind chill warning that is expected to remain through noon Monday.

The warning was issued by the National Weather Service, which sent a report to the media Sunday morning that noted the agency’s “high confidence in dangerous cold wind chills continuing through Monday morning.”

All counties in eastern North Dakota are in the warning. Counties in northwestern Minnesota are in a wind chill advisory. Hazardous wind chills are expected to continue through at least Monday, with an expectation of improvement Tuesday and Wednesday, the National Weather Service noted Sunday.

According to a chart created by the National Weather Service, wind chills in Devils Lake Sunday morning dipped below minus-50. It was the same in Langdon.

In Grand Forks and Fargo, the wind chill Sunday morning was in the minus-40s.

The NWS predicts wind chills to be in the minus-40s on Monday morning in Devils Lake and Langdon and in the minus-30s in Grand Forks, Fargo and Bemidji.

Come Tuesday, wind chills likely will improve somewhat, sitting in the range of minus-34 in Devils Lake and minus-28 in Grand Forks as the sun rises, and moving into the minus-teens after that.

It comes as the first blizzard of the season for Grand Forks County —

named Blizzard Andy by the Herald

— dissipates. The Saturday storm brought about 2.5 inches of fresh snowfall, but its true impact was its winds, which brought whiteout conditions to rural areas and pushed wind chills toward minus-60. The blizzard warning was lifted early Saturday evening.

The National Weather Service forecast for Grand Forks calls for highs in the single digits Wednesday through Saturday.
