Why are flags in North Dakota at half-staff today?

BISMARCK, N.D. (KXNET) — In accordance with a proclamation issued by President Joe Biden, Gov. Doug Burgum has directed all authorities companies to fly the USA and North Dakota flags at half-staff from Friday, Might 13, till sundown Monday, Might 16, and encourages North Dakotans to do the identical at their properties and companies, as a mark of respect and remembrance of the 1 million American lives misplaced to COVID-19.

Flags have been at half-staff Thursday as directed by the governor in observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day.
