Sister Carol (Helen) Axtmann, OSB., a long-time member of the Benedictine Sisters of Sacred Coronary heart Monastery, died February 26, 2023 at St. Vincent’s Care Heart, Bismarck, ND. She was 85 years of age.

Born in Rugby, ND, April 8, 1937, the daughter of Christine and Nick Axtmann. Most of her childhood schooling was in Orrin, ND, the place the place her dad and mom lived. In highschool she went to the Sacred Coronary heart Academy, Minot, ND the place she graduated. In 1955 she joined the Benedictine Sisters and made her perpetual career on July 14, 1959.

Most of her ministerial life was in schooling instructing grade college youngsters at Little Flower, Minot; St. Peter and Paul, Fallon; St. Leo’s in Minot, and Ryan Excessive Faculty in Minot. She additionally spent fourteen years instructing in our mission college in Bogota, Colombia. She had a BA in schooling. In later years, she went again to varsity and earned a Grasp’s diploma in Theology adopted by Certification by the Nationwide Affiliation of Catholic Chaplains. She switched ministries from schooling to chaplaincy. She offered pastoral care at St. Vincent’s Care Heart, Bismarck; Garrison Nursing Residence, Garrison; Madonna Towers, Rochester, MN and at Subiaco Manor, Dickinson. From 2019 onward, she thought of herself retired.

Sr. Carol was an professional at knitting caps and gave lots of to charities to distribute. She additionally made lots of of rosaries. She had a creative bent and made numerous banners and many others., for individuals and organizations.

Sr. Carol was an lively participant in monastic life. She served on a number of boards and council associated to the works of the Sisters. She was additionally the coordinator of the Sacred Coronary heart Academy alumnae for a few years.

Sr. Carol is fourth of ten youngsters. She is survived by her sisters, Mary Ann Schuster, West Fargo, ND; Cathy O’Connell, Lakewood, WA; Alice Henderscheid, Heart, ND; and brothers: Fr. David, Highmore, SD and George, Fargo, ND. Deceased brothers are Fred, Ed, Tony, Paul. She can be survived by many nieces and nephews.

Sr. Carol is survived by her Benedictine Sister household at Sacred Coronary heart Monastery, Dickinson, ND.

Visitation shall be held at St. Vincent’s Care Heart, Wednesday, March 1, from 2:00-3:00 P.M. CT.

Mass of Christian Burial shall be at 10:00AM MT, Thursday, March 2 at Assumption Abbey Church, Richardton, ND adopted by burial within the Sacred Coronary heart Monastery Cemetery, Richardton, ND. Visitation shall be one hour earlier than companies.
