One person dies by suicide Sunday during traffic stop in West Fargo

WEST FARGO — One person is dead following a traffic stop in West Fargo that ended in suicide.
Around 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, the West Fargo Police Department conducted a felony traffic stop at the intersection of 26th Avenue South and Veterans Boulevard for probable cause relating to a domestic dispute.
After officers initiated the stop, the driver exited the vehicle and was briefly detained, according to Addie Stewart, communications manager for the City of West Fargo The passenger did not comply with the officer’s commands and got back into the vehicle. The passenger revealed then a firearm and died by suicide while officers were providing additional commands, according to Stewart.
There were no shots fired by members of the West Fargo Police Department. There were no injuries to emergency personnel or bystanders. The West Fargo Police Department previously engaged with the individual regarding a domestic dispute during the evening hours on Saturday.
The area had been blocked off while authorities investigated and dealt with the scene. It is now reopened to traffic.
This remains an ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time, according to Stewart.
