North Dakota man kills teen with vehicle after political dispute, claims victim was Republican ‘extremist’

A North Dakota man charged with killing an adolescent utilizing his car has reportedly admitted to deliberately hitting him after a political dispute, claiming the boy was a part of a Republican “extremist group.” 

Shannon Brandt, 41, killed 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson early Sunday in McHenry with an SUV in an alley, KVRR-TV reported. He’s charged with vehicular murder and leaving the scene of a lethal accident.

Brandt reportedly referred to as 911 to report the crash, authorities mentioned. Authorities mentioned he was allegedly drunk on the time.

Court docket paperwork mentioned he advised a 911 dispatcher the teenager was a part of a Republican “extremist group” and was calling folks to go after him following an unspecified political argument. 

Ellingson’s mom advised police her son referred to as her earlier than the crash, asking if she knew Brandt. She mentioned she did however that she didn’t consider her son knew him. 

Brandt fled the scene of the incident and was arrested at his house.
