FARGO — On the day of the shooting of Fargo Police Officer Jake Wallin, North Dakota Horse Park general manager Hugh Alan Drexler said the horse races were delayed, because the ambulances that are usually present to ensure the safety of the jockeys, could not be there on time.

In honor of the victims of the shooting, the track will donate $1 from every admission ticket purchased and 10% from concession profits to the families of Fargo police officers who were shot on Friday, July 14, and others affected by the ambush on officers on Saturday, July 22,

The gate opens at 11 a.m., and the races start at 12:30 p.m. Race day admission is $8, but it’s free for ages 12 and under. All active and retired military, law enforcement, first responders and essential workers will also receive free admission Saturday.

“It kind of spreads the word about our horse racing here, and we just kind of want to give back and just show them (first responders) a good time,” Drexler said.

“I’d like to see $5,000 to $10,000, but … you never know, depending on what our attendance is going to be, how much we sell in concessions, how much we do in admission. If we have a weekend like we had last weekend, I’m pretty sure we can hit that $5,000 to $10,000 mark with no problem,” he said.
