FARGO — The North Dakota Highway Patrol is honoring the people who saved a man’s life on Nov. 23, 2022.

Two state patrol officers and five North Dakota Department of Transportation employees were presented with two awards each; the Colonel’s Award for Excellence and the North Dakota Peace Officers Association’s Life Saving Award.

The awards are a result of their actions when a vehicle crashed into a plow and pickup truck blocking off a crew working to repair a cable median barrier on Interstate 94 3 miles east of Casselton.

Ryan Jamieson, the DOT worker who suffered a severe leg injury after being pinned against the barrier by the vehicle, was there and received the awards alongside those who helped him.

North Dakota Highway Patrol Captain Bryan Niewind spoke as part of the ceremony, saying everyone involved in the life-saving group effort deserves recognition.

“Everybody involved in this situation contributed to the success of what happened here. And Ryan is back to work, which is great,” Niewind said.

Charges have yet to be filed against the driver of the vehicle. Niewind told WDAY News that the Highway Patrol’s investigation into the crash is complete. They will be meeting with the State Attorney’s Office on Thursday about the case.
