Bowman entered a 45 mph construction zone at a high rate of speed, but his vehicle failed to negotiate the reduced speed zone and left the roadway, the highway patrol said.

Bowman’s vehicle entered the median, striking a steel bridge guardrail near mile marker 73 approximately 20 miles out of Stanley, the highway patrol said.

Bowman was transported by ambulance to Tioga Medical Center, and then taken by air to Trinity Health in Minot.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
