LAKOTA, N.D. — A man is in jail after deputies say he tried to kidnap his ex-girlfriend’s children during a community event Friday evening, June 16.

Ky Schneider, 31, from Lakota, was arrested by the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, June 16, after he chased his ex-girlfriend’s child away from the park where the Lakota Turkey BBQ was being held.

Schneider has children with the woman, but it is unclear whether the child he chased was his own.

Nelson County Court documents obtained by WDAY News say the child hid from Schneider, and that Schneider was unable to find the child.

The documents say Scheider went to the event with the intent of kidnapping the child and that Schneider also threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend, the kids, and any police officers that got involved if his ex called the police.

When officers attempted to arrest him, Schneider became physical and injured one of the officers.

Documents say Schneider was upset with his ex-girlfriend, and told her he would hold the children until she complied with his demands.

Schneider is facing charges of felony attempted kidnapping, felony terrorizing, and a misdemeanor for preventing arrest.

He appeared in court for an initial appearance Wednesday morning, June 21. He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 11.
