DWU volleyball splits matches in North Dakota

VALLEY CITY, N.D. — The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon in North Dakota against foes from the North Star Athletic Association.

The Tigers defeated Dickinson State 3-0 before losing to host Valley City State later in the day in three sets.

In the first match against the Blue Hawks, which DWU won 25-20, 25-13 and 25-19, the Tigers had 18 kills in the opening set, setting the pace for the match and had only 13 hitting errors for the match.

Ady Dwight had 19 kills, with nine from Emily Dale and seven from Abby Brunsing. Lizzie Tyler had a team-high 16 digs and two service aces and Kayleigh Hybertson had 38 set assists. Dale had seven total blocks in the victory.

DWU was downed by the Vikings in the second match, a 25-18, 25-20, 25-19 decision, which improved Valley City State to 11-3 on the season. DWU hit .174 for the match on the attack, with Ady Dwight leading the way with 17 kills on a .417 hitting night. Hybertson had 35 set assists and Tya Weideman had 26 digs for the Tigers,

The Tigers (10-6) will resume GPAC play on Wednesday, facing Northwestern at 7:30 p.m. in Orange City, Iowa.
