Funeral providers for Dorothy Schaffer will likely be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Evans Funeral Residence in Carrington, North Dakota. Burial will likely be in Carrington Cemetery. Previous to the service, a visitation will likely be held on the funeral dwelling starting at 12:30 p.m. The previous Carrington lady handed away July 1, 2022, at Sheyenne Crossings Care Middle in West Fargo, North Dakota. She was 94.

Dorothy Mae Strom was born on April 13, 1928, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Oliver and Hattie (Nylander) Strom. In 1930, she and her mother and father moved to Lake Park, Minnesota the place she grew up on the household farm. Dorothy obtained her elementary and secondary training within the Audubon-Lake Park space. In Could of 1949, Dorothy obtained her three-year diploma as a registered nurse from St. John’s Hospital Faculty of Nursing in Fargo, North Dakota. After commencement, she labored for the Nationwide Polio Basis and St. John’s Hospital till December 1950. After that, she labored at Common Rose Memorial Hospital in Denver till her transfer to Carrington. In October 1951 Dorothy started her work on the Carrington Hospital and Holy Household Visitor Residence.

On September 13, 1953, Dorothy married Raymond (Ray) Schaffer in Carrington. They lived in Carrington till 1980 after they moved to Dickinson, North Dakota. In 1985, they returned to Carrington and Dorothy was employed for 3 years as Director of Nursing for long-term care on the Carrington Well being Middle. She continued as a employees nurse till her retirement in 1993, having spent 37 years with the Carrington Well being Middle services.

Dorothy was a member of the Federated Church and Circle Martha. She loved crocheting, baking and writing letters.

She is survived by her two daughters, Karen (Mark) Jackson of Tekamah, Nebraska and Janet Hahn of West Fargo; one son, Myron (Sara) Schaffer of Broomfield, Colorado; 5 grandchildren: Diane Hahn of Minneapolis, Erich Hahn of Lander, Wyoming, and Julie (Eric) Johnson of Duluth, Minnesota, Kira and Vivian Schaffer of Broomfield; one brother, Ronald (Carol) Strom of Lake Park; and one sister-in-law, Linda Schaffer of Valley Metropolis, North Dakota.

She was preceded in loss of life by her husband, one toddler daughter, and her mother and father.

Memorials are steered to the Federated Church of Carrington or Carrington Cemetery.
