FARGO — A busy section of 25th Street N. will be closed starting on Monday, August 14, for construction.

The closure is for work on the underpass from Main Avenue to First Avenue N., just south of Police Headquarters.

The $2.7 million project will replace the roadway, storm sewer, sidewalk, and railings.

“We’re going to be completely reconstructing, the concrete is shot, it’s time to replace it. It was installed 40 years ago so, just new pavement is going in,” said Jeremy Gorden, a transportation division engineer with the City of Fargo.

The project will also create a lengthy detour, going all the way to Interstate 29 and back. Gorden said the train tracks in the area are what made it necessary.

“The railroad tracks are right there, and there’s really no crossings to the east until University and then you’ve got one at 28th Street between there and the Interstate. So First Avenue North is going to see a lot of traffic,” Gorden said.

The completion date is scheduled for October.
