WATCH LIVE: Coverage of severe weather in southeast Nebraska


LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Heavy rain and high winds are blowing through southeast Nebraska late Monday night.

Just after 11 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for central Lancaster County, including Lincoln.

The warning goes until 2:45 a.m. The weather service expects the rain to fall at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.

Lancaster County is also under a severe thunderstorm warning until 11:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, just before 11:30 p.m., a storm capable of producing a tornado was located 3 miles southwest of Crete.

It is moving east at 25 mph.

Parts of Lancaster and Saline counties are under a tornado warning until midnight.

Central Nebraska authorities investigate possible drowning at Mormon Island State Recreation Area


HALL COUNTY, Neb. (KSNB) – The Hall County Sheriff’s Office confirmed one person possibly drowned at the Mormon Island State Recreation Area on Thursday.

The Doniphan Fire and Quick Response Team responded to the area near Interstate 80 and Highway 34 for a water rescue around 5:15 p.m.

Sgt. Jeremy Jones said a group of individuals unloading a boat into the water lost sight of one of the males assisting and were unable to locate him for some time. Authorities arrived on scene and found the deceased male in the water.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Grand Island Rural Fire, Dive Rescue Team, Nebraska State Patrol and Nebraska Game and Parks are also on scene assisting in the investigation.

Patrol cruiser, semitrailer hit by passing van in southeast Nebraska


LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Nebraska State Patrol cruiser was struck by a passing van Wednesday night in southeast Nebraska.

A trooper and two tow truck drivers were working on Highway 81 near Hebron, the patrol said.

While they were working, a passing van hit the trooper’s cruiser and the semitrailer they were preparing to tow.

According to the state patrol, the three saw the van coming and were able to run out of the way.

The patrol said the van driver “was a little banged up” but is OK.

The agency said this is a reminder to move over and slow down for emergency vehicles.
